Ryan O. Miller
I am a fourth year Ph.D. Candidate studying Organizational Behaviour at Ivey Business School at Western University in London, Ontario, Canada. My present research (focus of dissertation) examines how gender may influence the leadership journeys and career experiences of aspiring senior leaders, and particularly the unique experiences of women CEOs. To do so, my dissertation consists of a mixed-methods field study (interviews, panel analysis, and more), examining the leadership journeys and career experiences of women CEOs, and the unique barriers and supports aspiring women leaders experience. I am particularly interested in how gender may influence mentorship experiences and social capital, the implications of internal versus external hires, and how my findings relate to longstanding gender role theories more broadly.
Notably, this research also investigates the role of boards of directors as they pertain to the appointment of CEOs. My ultimate goal is to expedite gender equality in leadership through rigorous empirical research.
